Ed Shew

Ed Shew is a second-generation Chinese American. His father, an immigrant from China, met his mother in St. Louis’ historic Chinatown, “Hop Alley”. One of five children, Ed found fitting in to be difficult throughout the 1960’s. At school and later as a human resources professional, he was often the only Asian in room. After retiring he became interested in his heritage and began exploring Asian American history. This led him to write Chinese Brothers, American Sons, a novel that not only allowed him to express pride in his heritage but helped him to find a community of his own.
