Anne Mitori

Born in Los Angeles but interned at an early age during World War II, Nobuko Anne Mitori both showcases and embodies the spirit of inclusivity in her story and her outlook on life. Having spent much of her life moving between different US cities and navigating between multiple cultural contexts, Anne connects to her Japanese heritage by building a community that is expansive and respectful of differences. Her involvement with the Japanese American Citizens League in St. Louis was driven by their ethos to care for people outside the majority, having herself been in that position during the internment camps.
